POST# 9: Changes to my study programme

In general I do not complain about my study programme, it is what I have to live within the faculty of arts. But it does not mean that it is mediocre or that it is 100% agreeable. There are changes that I would like to see in my study programme.

First, I think there is a good variety of specialized workshops: painting, drawing, experimental workshops, etc. with practical work I think we are well on our way. However I think we are lame in the theoretical part, have not given enough importance to the subjects of Theory and history of art. Artists should be more cultured and therefore know more art history rather than have a slight and irresponsible knowledge of it.

About the space where we are developing to be artists, it’s clear it’s not the right building. There are workshops that require a lot of space to work and do not have it, as well as heating and ventilation problems, this last is because we use toxic materials to work. We should also be careful in the winter season, because on rainy days the university always suffers floods and in workshops there are leaks, Because of that, we always try to avoid them so that our work does not end up soaked and damaged by humidity.

Due to the poor infrastructure, we have not been able to opt for more technological equipment, and the little technology that the university possesses is also damaged by the rain, as happened with the new library the year before.

With regard to the Teaching Method, I think on the one hand this well, because we learn to be self critical with what we do and interesting discussions are created between the student and teacher regarding the works.On the other hand, I think that the times in which we dedicate techniques, art history and creating a personal proposal are poorly distributed. I think we should devote ourselves to learning these three factors in a more equitable way.

As you can see, I am not entirely satisfied with my study programme, it clearly has several shortcomings where it should improve. The first sentences of this post are because I like what I study and the place where I study, is my second home because I spend many hours in the week working in the paint shop and I love it (even with leaks in rainy day).
